We’re excited to show how AI can help you find and analyze energy information faster and more effectively!
If you’re brand new to Halcyon, we’ve made this video guide to help jumpstart your research in our platform:
Search
A Halcyon Search lets you set criteria — such as a document’s publisher or relevant keywords — and returns a list of all matching documents from the millions within Halcyon’s Data Catalog. Search is free; we recommend bookmarking: https://app.halcyon.io
To get started with a search, we recommend choosing one or more publishers. This helps narrow your search, and will return more specific documents. Publishers include state utility commissions, regional transmission organizations/independent service operators, and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.

To further narrow your search, add one or more keywords or a docket number. The docket field allows you to search for dockets across selected publishers, or across all publishers. When searching by keyword, Halcyon will return all documents that contain an exact match of the search terms or phrases. You can select whether keywords use “ANY OF” logic (which surfaces documents containing any of your keywords) or “ALL OF” logic (which surfaces documents containing all of your keywords).

Each time you edit a filter, or add a keyword, the search results dynamically update. You can choose to return a list of recent documents, or recently updated dockets that match your search criteria.

Query
Once you’ve narrowed your search results to relevant documents or dockets, you can click ‘Query’ to access the query input field.
A Query is a natural-language question or prompt that generates a cited response from Halcyon’s data catalog. Queries return higher-quality responses when Halcyon’s data catalog is filtered to relevant sources.
Here, simply write out your prompt (question/request). We recommend including additional context in your prompt to make sure the system accurately finds the information you’re looking for. Imagine writing a request to an intern without any context!

The system will return a response with citations pointing back to the most relevant documents. To run a different query — or adjust your current query — simply click ‘query again’.

We’re currently building out a more formal query-writing guide, but in the meantime, some best practices when composing queries:
- Include relevant context
- Use proper nouns and spell out acronyms
- Take an iterative approach - adding additional specificity can often improve results!
We need your feedback!
