Using the Halcyon API with LLMs: Example Conversations

See how LLMs uses the Halcyon API to search filings, run queries, check alerts and pull tracker data.

If you have a Halcyon API key, you can connect it to an LLM and ask questions about regulatory filings in plain language. Claude handles the API calls for you. It searches across publishers and dockets, runs queries, reads your alert notifications and downloads your data subscriptions, then answers with links back to the source documents in Halcyon.

The examples below are real conversations. Each one shows the prompt, Claude's response, and the parts of the API it used. You can use them as starting points for your own questions, whether you're tracking a single docket, comparing large load tariffs across states, or catching up on what your alerts found this week.

A few things to keep in mind:

  • Answers cite their sources. Every claim links to the filing it came from, so you can check the original.
  • Narrow questions get better answers. A query reads a ranked selection of matching documents, not every match. Naming a publisher, docket or date range makes the answer more complete.
  • Alerts are read-only through the API. Claude can read what your alerts found, but you create and edit alerts in app.halcyon.io.
